I attend SUU via online only, how do I get the books and articles I need?

A distance learner is a student who is registered for classes at Southern Utah University but does not live in Cedar City, or one of the nearby towns, to access SUU's library's materials in person.

Distance students have direct access to thousands of full text electronic books and journal articles by searching the Sherratt Library catalog and subscription databases available at the Sherratt Library's web site.

For those items not available online, distance students can use ILLiad to request books and articles needed for their academic work.

If the SUU Sherratt Library OWNS the book or journal:

Distance learners can borrow both books and articles owned by the SUU Sherratt Library by submitting them as an interlibrary loan request through ILLiad.

Books will be delivered to the address that you have provided when you registered for your interlibrary loan account. Be sure this address is correct before submitting your ILL request. To view your account information, including shipping address, click on "Change User Information" under the Tools option from the side navigation menu.. This service is only available to students who are enrolled in online courses and do not have a local address in Cedar or its neighboring towns in SUU's online registration system.

When receiving a book from SUU's Sherratt Library in the mail, please keep all stickers and return address labels with the item. When finished with the item, you are responsible for returning the item before the due date to the nearest university library to your location for a "courtesy return" back to us at no shipping cost to you. You may, at your own expense, return the item directly to the Sherratt lLibrary using the provided return address label. You are responsible for late fees if returned late, so allow ample time for shipping before the item is due.

Journal articles will be scanned and delivered electronically through ILLiad. You will receive an email notification that the request has been fulfilled. In ILLiad, on the side navigation menu, under "View," click on "Electronically Received Articles" to receive your article. Be sure to save this to your computer or hard drive if you will need it longer than 30 days. After 30 days, the article will no longer be available in your account.

If the SUU Sherratt Library DOES NOT OWN the journal:

Distance learners can order articles from other libraries by submitting an ILL request through ILLiad for them The article, when received, will be delivered through ILLiad and you will recieve an email notification when it is available.

If the SUU Sherratt Library DOES NOT OWN the book:

At this time, we do not ship books from other libraries, requested through interlibrary loan, to distance learners. We have found that the due dates on some items can be too short and that by the time the item was shipped and received, it would be due back to the lending library. If you cannot pick up the book in person from the SUU Sherratt Library, the item will not be shipped to you and will be returned to the lending library. If you are looking for a specific chapter out of a book, please request this through ILLiad and we will be happy to process that request for you.
