Reference Books

  1. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, yearbooks, statistics, and atlases can be found online and in the Reference Collection on the First Floor. 
  2. To find reference books to help you with PVA research using the Library Catalog, select Advanced Search, type appropriate keywords, e.g. shakespeare, then in the format: window select Reference Book, then click Search.

Searching other library catalogs:  From the Research Tab, go to Other Libraries

  • WorldCat.org - use for finding books on your topic in other libraries, then request through Interlibrary Loan.
  • Utah's Catalog: search all Utah academic libraries

Google Books

Although Google Books seldom delivers the complete text of a recently-published book, it can be very useful for viewing books' tables of contents and other information.

Free Art eBook Collections

Getty Museum Virtual Library

Getty Museum has more than 250 art books online for anyone to read online and or download. You can search through the collection by author, keyword, or title. Alternatively, you can simply browse the collections. All of the free books are also available on Google Books.

Metropolitan Museum of Art
Collection of free art history ebooks from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Books can be read online or downloaded as PDFs. You can search through the catalog of books by keyword, title, author, thematic category, format, and publication type.

 

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan enables current SUU students, faculty, and staff to request books or receive electronic copies of articles that are available from other libraries.

To use Interlibrary Loan, from the library homepage, scroll down to Using the Library and choose Interlibrary Loan.

  • If you've searched the Library Catalog and discover the SUU library doesn't have the book you need. Book requests will be delivered in approximately one week of request.
  • If you've searched the Find Journals by Title for a journal that has an article you want and find that the SUU library doesn't have access to that journal. Articles will be delivered as electronic (pdf) copies to your Interlibrary Loan account, usually within a few days.
