The Gerald R. Sherratt Library offers a variety of library-related assistance and instruction. Library instruction has a high priority among the library's public service programs.
Library Instruction
During the first weeks of each semester, we receive a great number of requests for library instruction sessions. To schedule an appointment, please submit this Library Instruction Request Form or contact us at LibInstruction@suu.edu or at (435) 856-8172. Each request will be honored on a first-come, first-serve basis. Time is needed to prepare for a course-specific orientation, so when you request library instruction, please help us to maximize the effectiveness of your session by doing the following things:
Student Orientation & LM 1010
Every semester there are general student orientations for freshmen which introduce students to the use of the SUU library catalog and multidisciplinary, periodic indexes.
Also offered every semester is LM 1010: Information Literacy, a one-credit, self-paced, on-line web course will introduce students to the services and resources of the SUU Library, and start them on their way to doing library research. Faculty members are welcome to register for this class. More information on LM 1010
Faculty Orientation
As a faculty member, if you would like personalized orientation to the library, a demonstration of new information databases available in the library, or just a brush-up on library resources, fill out the Library Instruction & Orientation Request Form below or contact us at LibInstruction@suu.edu or at (435) 865-8172 to schedule an appointment. A librarian will meet with you and point out any library service and information sources (print or electronic) that may be useful in your discipline. Librarians are also available to give orientations to groups of faculty from a department and to assist faculty in developing class assignments that utilize library resources.
