Library Lost and Found

Campus Lost and Found is located in the Sherratt Library at the Check Out Desk. Lost property should be turned in there.

If you have a lost or found item, you may fill out this online form or call 435-865-8240.

Every effort shall be made to return lost property to its owner. You can visit the Lost and Found whenever the library is open. For rules governing Lost and Found transactions please refer to the policy information below.

Bikes and other large forms of transportation are to be turned in to Facilities ManagementThey can be contacted at 435-865-8735 and are located at 385 South 1275 West, Cedar City, UT.

Lost and Found Policy

Every effort shall be made to return lost property to its owner. All items turned in will be reviewed and sorted through to find some form of identification in order to contact the owner.

Examples of ACCEPTED items:

  • Cell Phones
  • Laptops
  • Flash drives/SD cards
  • Chargers
  • Calculators
  • Tech
  • Wallets/Purses
  • Glasses/Sunglasses
  • Backpacks
  • Keys
  • Jewelry
  • Headphones/Airpods
  • Textbooks
  • Clothing/Accessories
  • Binders, folders, and notebooks
  • Any other items of value or importance and items having ownership information

Examples of items NOT accepted:

  • Perishable items/Food
  • Flammable items (lighters, etc)
  • Items of an inappropriate nature
  • Personal grooming items (combs, brushes, bows, ribbons, scrunchies, etc)
  • Intentionally abandoned property (electronic equipment that obviously does not work, damaged furniture, items placed by trash containers for disposal, etc)
  • Any item that is not sanitary (undergarments and clothing of a personal nature, contact lenses, contact lens solutions, ear plugs, socks, towels or cloths of personal use, chemical and medical items such as cleaning solutions or prescription drugs, lotions, hair products, make-up, etc)

Please Note:

  1. Some departments/buildings may keep lost and found items from their respective areas for a short amount of time before it is turned into the Lost and Found. Please feel free to check the department/building where your item might have been lost.
  2. You may also want to leave a note on the white board or on a sticky note somewhere in the room where your lost article was last seen.
  3. The SUU Police will be notified if anything of a suspicious nature is turned in.




Items in the lost and found may not be previewed. If the item is in the Lost and Found and you can identify it, you will need to sign a receipt of property returned and provide us with a current phone number. This receipt will be retained for three years on file at the SUU Lost & Found office.

All item(s) will be held for 30 days. If there are no claims for the property within the 30 days the office shall disperse as follows:

  1. All clothing and miscellaneous items will be donated to SUU Service and Learning or local charity or good will/thrift store.
  2. All phones, keys, and glasses will be recycled
  3. Other unclaimed items are subject to be placed in an annual sale with discounted prices set by the Circulation department
  4. KEYS
    • Keys will be held for up to 30 days.
      All keys will be recycled if no one claims them after 30 days
  5. FLASH DRIVES
    •  All flash drives will be kept for a period of 30 days.
    • After the 30 days are over all flash drives will be cleared and sold at discounted prices.
  6. STUDENT ID’S
    • All Student ID’s are turned into the SUU Cashiers office after thirty days.
  7. DRIVERS LICENSES
    • All Drivers Licenses will be mailed back to the designated address after thirty days. This is only if the owner is unable to retrieve the item in the allotted time or if they cannot be notified.
  8. WATER BOTTLES
    • All Water Bottles will be donated on the 15th of the month following the month they were turned in. For example, all water bottles that were found in October will be donated November 15th and all November water bottles will be donated December 15th and so on.
