Simplified Citation Style Guide

  1. All quotes, paraphrases, and summaries should be set off with a signal phrase that mentions the author’s name which can include corporate authors.  If there is more than one author, use only the first author’s name followed by et al.
  2. When finding resources from databases, if the database includes PURLs (permanent URLs or permalinks), such as in EBSCOhost, then use the PURL.
  3. If PURLs are not included, then use a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) number to cite your source.
  4. For sources without PURLs or DOIs, use the URL.
  5. Your links to URLs and PURLs should all be active, working links.
  6. You need to number your in-text citation, and link this number to the corresponding number and the source of the information, on your Sources Cited page.
  7. The items in your Sources Cited are numbered and arranged in the order in which they were cited in the paper.

Follow the examples on the Tabs above for formatting your Sources Cited page.  All entries should be left justified with a blank line between entries.
