Third Annual Library Gala
Don't miss the Friends of the Library Third Annual Gala! The evening promises to be full of fun and entertainment.
Highlights for the evening include:
- Cedar City authors L.E. Modesitt, Jr. and Allyson Braithwaite Condie will be on hand to visit and autograph copies of their books. Bring your own copies or purchase one that night at the Gala. Modesitt has written more than 55 science fiction and fantasy novels. The Lady-Protector was released in March and his newest novel Scholar is soon to be released. A young adult fiction writer, Condie's latest book Matched is currently on the New York Times bestsellers list. The sequel Crossed will be released in November.
- A 1623 First Folio edition of Shakespeare's plays, on loan from the Folger Library in Washington D.C., is on display in Special Collections. Utah Shakespeare Festival Founder Fred C. Adams will give some insight into this rare publication and Ryan Paul will be signing the book he authored chronicling the 50 years of the USF Celebrate 50 Years: Utah Shakespeare Festival.
- A visual presentation from Dean Shauna Mendini and students of the College of Performing and Visual Arts about their trip to China where they presented The Dream of Helen, inspired by the life and achievements of Cedar native Helen Foster Snow.
- Throughout the evening live music, modern dance and poetry readings will be provided by students and faculty of the Music, Dance and English departments.
The Gala is scheduled for October 8, 2011 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sherratt Library. Admission is $35 per person, which includes membership with the Friends of the Library
